Healthy Homemade Jello
This jello recipe is so fun to make and a easy healthy homemade snack. Juice and beef gelatin are the only ingredients you need. I’ve used many different flavors of juice, as well and combinations of different kinds, and all are delicious.
For this recipe, I used a tart cherry juice. However, I’ve used grape, apple, black cherry, and cranberry blends before. Using juices that are not from concentrate is the better-for-you option. Concentrate juices are highly processed, have less of the nutrition in regular fruit juice, and will sometimes have added sugars or preservatives.
Have fun and try different flavors and blends!
Grass-fed beef gelatin is such a great ingredient. It’s derived from the bones, skin, and connective tissues of grass-fed cows. It includes benefits like being a good source of collagen, and is rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Why buy grass -fed? Cows raised on a grass diet tend to have higher nutritional value like vitamins and fatty acids and have less contaminants than grain-fed cows. (LINK: GRASS FED BEEF GELATIN)
Healthy Homemade Fruit Jello
Ingredients
- 32 oz. fruit juice (I used tart cherry)
- 1/3 c. grass-fed beef gelatin
Directions
- First, add 1 and 1/2 cups of the juice to a 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle the beef gelatin on top.
- While the gelatin blooms, pour the remaining juice into a saucepan. Bring the juice to a boil and remove from the heat.
- Pour the hot juice over the juice/gelatin mixture and whisk gently until the gelatin has melted and disappeared.
- Skim off any bubbles off the top and set the jello mixture into the refrigerator to chill.
- Chill the jello for two hours or until it’s set and enjoy!
Notes: Store the jello in the refrigerator. We love this as a healthy homemade snack to add to our lunches during the week! I can imagine that it would be a healthy snack option for children as well.
